Venture capital firms are optimistic about the investment opportunities revealed by information from the Two Sessions.
The recently concluded national "Two Sessions" set the tone for China's economic and social development this year. In the eyes of many investment institutions, the "Two Sessions" conveyed many important messages that contain valuable investment opportunities.
As the most watched topic of the national "Two Sessions", the government adjusted the 2012 GDP year-on-year growth target down to 7.5%, aiming to de-emphasize overall scale, actively reduce growth speed, and create space for the development of emerging industries.
Industrial Global Fund Management Co., Ltd., which is currently issuing the first "light-asset fund" in the mainland market, believes that as enterprise development shifts from pursuing speed to pursuing quality, the corporate strategy of adopting a "light-asset model" will increasingly demonstrate unique charm.
A study by Haitong Securities based on relevant data disclosed by A-share listed companies from 2005 to 2010 shows that the ratio of fixed assets to total assets is negatively correlated with return on invested capital, while fixed asset turnover is stably positively correlated with return on invested capital. From this perspective, the "lighter" the asset structure, the higher the potential return on invested capital. The concept of "light-asset operation" aligns with China's national strategy for future economic transformation.
The Haitong Securities report also points out that common characteristics of representative domestic light-asset industries such as media, food and beverage, wholesale and retail, information technology, and finance typically include occupying fewer fixed assets, while focusing more on providing services and building brands. Compared to the trends of the Haitong secondary industry index and the Shanghai Composite Index, the overall performance of these light-asset industries is far stronger than the market, with the value of high-quality individual stocks being particularly prominent.
Chen Yangfan, the proposed fund manager for Xingquan Light-Asset Fund, stated that selecting light-asset companies worth investing in can be divided into three levels: first, "inherently" light-asset industries such as consulting services and finance; second, in "flexible" industries like apparel, choosing enterprises that "shift from heavy to light"; and finally, within heavy-asset industries, enterprises that are relatively light-asset and have higher product added value compared to peers.
Changsheng Fund believes that the industrial information development program proposed in the government work report of this year's "Two Sessions" deserves attention. Premier Wen Jiabao not only proposed "developing a new generation of information technology, strengthening network infrastructure construction, and promoting substantial progress in the convergence of three networks," but also repeatedly mentioned industries such as "cloud computing," "Internet of Things," and "e-commerce."
Wang Keyu, the proposed fund manager for Changsheng Electronic Information Industry, which is currently being issued, stated that compared to previous years, the connotation of the information industry involved in this year's "Two Sessions" is not limited to a single industry, but permeates all aspects of people's livelihoods, agriculture, rural areas, and farmers, urbanization, as well as government affairs, military, and security. As Minister Miao Wei of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said, using information technology to transform and upgrade traditional industries has a more global and strategic significance than any other new invention or technological breakthrough.
In fact, over the past three years, the electronic information industry has become one of the hotspots in the capital market. Data shows that as of March 13, the CSI Information Index has accumulated a return of 115.6% since 2009, far exceeding the 34.87% gain of the CSI 300 Index during the same period.
Wang Keyu stated that the information revealed by the national "Two Sessions" indicates that the electronic information industry is becoming a powerful lever for economic transformation, which means that related sectors and companies in the A-share market have good growth potential.
